Wall Tablets
Built on sheets of plywood, a tablet uses a verbal concept in visual terms. In this series, each tablet describes one of the five elements according to the Chinese tradition (earth, metal, water, wood, and fire), and is composed primarily of that element. Each tablet describes a different phase of the interaction (i.e., water plus metal produces rust) When presented in an exhibit, each tablet may be accompanied by a poetic text which describes its qualities (i.e.“Metal is the mother of Water/ Its color is white/ The emotion is grief and melancholy”). The seed codex was the original tablet by the artist in a medium that still proves fruitful.
